Powerful water jet cutting systems are accurate

Water-jet cutting systems are powerful tools that can cut through almost any material. A water-jet cutter is a tool that uses water mixed with an abrasive substance and sprayed at a high-velocity at a concentrated point. They are used to cut everything from food, to hardened steel, to titanium. A new water-jet product from a company called Jet Edge can hold an accuracy of 0.05 inch with a repeatability of 0.001 inch. Also, the intensifier pump can go 40,000 hours between maintenance cycles which means less downtime and lower operating costs. The new design has added non-threaded high-pressure components in the high pressure cylinder and made improvements with the performance check valve and low torque valve. The water-jet is controlled by a real-time pump control that allows remote starting and stopping of the cutter. Also, the cutter can be programmed to any direction along the XYZ-axis. A digital readout for the head positioning both reduces the setup time and eliminates the need for manual measurement. Water-jet cutters are used in industries such as mining, aerospace, and industrial manufacturing. Read the full article at Manufacturing Talk.
